These Frequently Asked Questions are artist related, for those who are entering or thinking about entering the 2018 NZ Body Art Showcase. Questions have been split into three categories; Registration Questions, Model Questions and Technical Questions.

- HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO ENTER?
Entry fee is $60.00NZD per entry or $50.00NZD for students (with ID).
- WHERE CAN I DOWNLOAD AN REGISTRATION FORM TO ENTER?
All registration forms and guidelines are here to download. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
- WHAT DOES MY ENTRY NEED TO INCLUDE?
Your entry must include a written concept, a sketch of your work and payment*. Registrations will not be accepted without these three items. The written concept, sketch and your experience will determine if the artist’s work will be accepted in the category(s) requested.
*Registration fee is non-refundable.
- WHAT DOES MY CONCEPT NEED TO INCLUDE?
A one paragraph description of what your design is; this will be used for the script. A sketch of your design, what you will present on the evening. Your sketch should include, colours, and design of any accessories, what your intended outcome will look like, and size.

- WHAT ARE THE CATEGORIES FOR THE 2018 NZ BODY ART SHOWCASE?

- IF MY DESIGN DOESN’T MEET CATEGORY CRITERIA WILL IT BE RECOMMENDED FOR ANOTHER?
When entries close, we go through all the images and descriptions, line them up in selected categories and begin script writing. If they match the category they are included, if we think they would suit another category or do not match the chosen category, we will contact you and discuss it with you in hopes to get you into the correct category.
- THE CONSENT FORM ASKS FOR MODELS SIGNATURE, DOES THIS HAVE TO BE SIGNED TO ENTER?
No. We understand that many of our artists & models don’t meet until the Friday rehearsal, so model signatures can be obtained then.
- IS THE NON-COMPETITIVE CATEGORY (OPEN MASTERS) THE BEST CATEGORY FOR BEGINNERS?
No, this category (Open Masters) is for professionals that don’t want to be judged but still want to display their work.
- IS THERE A NOVICE CATEGORY?
No. All novice can enter any category except Open Masters. All novice entries are in the afternoon judging show at 4pm, if you qualify, then you’ll progress through to the evening show, where you’re no longer considered novice.
- I ENTERED THE LAST SHOW AS A NOVICE. AM I STILL A NOVICE?
No. If you have entered the NZ Body Art Showcase previously or another professional event/competition then you do not qualify as a novice.
- AM I A NOVICE?
Have you ever entered the NZ Body Art Showcase or similar professional event?
Have you ever had your work published?
Do you work as a makeup artist, special effects artist, body painter and/or face painter?If your answer is no for all of these questions, then yes, you qualify as a novice.
- CAN YOU HELP ME FIND A MODEL?
We certainly can help you find a model. Please contact us a.s.a.p and we will help you as best as we can.
- IS THERE A MAXIMUM NUMBER OF MODELS PER ENTRY?
Yes. There is a maximum of two models per entry, unless special permission is sort from the organisers.
- CAN I PROVIDE MY OWN MUSIC?
No. All music is provided by NZ Body Art Showcase and will be available one month prior to the show.
- CAN I USE LIGHTING IN MY PIECE?
Yes. However, as the lighting cues are scripted prior to the event & rehearsals, we will need to be made aware that you are using lighting in your piece well before show day.

- CAN I USE TECHNICAL SPECIAL EFFECTS IN MY PIECE?
No. The use of dry ice, fire and other effects is strictly forbidden.
- CAN I APPLY MY DESIGN WITH TATTOO TRANSFER PAPER?
Tattoo transfer paper CANNOT be used in the hand painting category, it may however be used in other categories. No application may take place prior to the event and models are randomly checked at entry to ensure there is no pre-prep.
- CAN I USE WATERSLIDE TATTOOS?
No, waterslide tattoos are not permitted.
