Tauranga Body Art Workshop & Show 2009

The stunned faces of the pedestrians and passing drivers when they saw the painted models walking through Tauranga from Tauranga School of Makeup to Baycourt Theatre in the afternoon of Notaurangamixv 7 were priceless - and the end of the workshops and the kick-off of the show in the evening.

Thereby, the BodyFX workshop taught by Yolanda Bartram was specifically marked by the very good atmosphere there and the outstanding results which were part of the show in the evening and made up the second heat. During the first heat, entrants from the School of Makeup Tauranga and Hamilton were on the stage. Both groups managed to enchant the audience and carry them away to a world of fantasy and illusion. What one could only see when being told that neither these artists (nor there models) were professionals, because the way they acted was so secure and full of feeling and routine.

Remarkably were also the openings of both parts of the show - in the very beginning, the audience was able to watch a short documentary about how Body Art is made and what it takes to create such a piece of art, whereas the opening of the second half was entertainment pure by Sonia and Grant Bullot playing live Jazz from their newly released CD "Tonight on trumpet" - marvelous.

Of course, there was also a very nice incentive to compete in the show for the artists and the models sponsored by the NZ Body Art Trust, the NZ Body Art Awards, BodyFX as well as by the School of Makeup Tauranga, namley products valued $200 and $300 for the third and second best entrant as well as $500 and $250 valued products plus free entry to the NZ Body Art Awards 2010 for the Supreme Winner. And of course a special prize for the best performing model. batauranga

Fur & Feathers 2009untitled-1

Taking place in Taupo on September 26 & 27 - thereby also hinting at the NZ Festival of Body Art in February 2010 there - Fur & Feathers 2009 was an extravaganza event with a great show where an emphasis was placed on 'walking art' through body painting, though some prothetics were also incorporated in the overall design. 9 participating artists created a marvelous show on a 15 meter long catwalk. With the addition of lighting and music, the audience was able to expierence a taste of Auckland's NZ BodyArtAwards in Taupo - with the addition of special Fur & Feather designs.

The Fur & Feathers Show was part of the Sika Competition for young artists who designed clothes out of furs and feathers. In addition to that, there was the Wild Food Taupo 2009 showcasing the natural products of mother earth in a taste, smell and feel style. The body artists were able to contribute excellently to the success of the weekend with this show, proving that the corporate work of Body Art Awards NZ (next to our private work) is indeed something very special for every event!
