Gina Nomachi's Face and Body Painting carreer started 10 years ago. She began working as a Face painter at Universal Studio's in Japan.
In that time she dabbled in some body painting but didn't start taking it seriously until she returned to Australia approx 4 years later.
Once home Gina began her own business and started to compete. She won her first body painting competition in 2009 at the Melbourne Body Art Competition (MBAC). From that time onwards Gina has remained dedicated to her passion of body art and helped establish the Australasian Face and Bodypainting Association.
In the past 3 years Gina has competed interstate and locally to considerate success. New Zealand will be her first time to compete overseas.
Gina's winning piece from the latest MBAC was painted to the theme of "Wired for Sound".
Karla Butcher, 10 years old artist “I became interested in Body Art when I came to the Lake House in Takapuna three years ago to take part in a mask making competition run by Youth Town, I came third. The following year at the Colourfest in Taupo I did the same competition and came first! When my Mum first competed last year at the New Zealand Body Art Awards she came third in the Novice section and that inspired me to have a go at the Waithui Festival in Taupo where I painted my brother as a Taniwha. I love Body Art because I love painting and mixing all of the colours together to make an active picture. You can paint both sides of the body with your own design. It’s exhilarating to be with people who have lots more experience than me and have come from different countries to compete at the New Zealand Body Art Awards.” François Rose et Houyam Hajlaoui Two artists from Belgium!!
Entertainment, festivals, corporate events or Halloween parties... Make-up became gradually a real job. He also took part in the face and body painting contests at the Brussels International Fantasy Film Festival, which he both won in 2006. This kind of event is the perfect place for creating special characters and using make-up as an art. Body art stands for him between plastic arts (for the technique) and performance arts (for its ephemeral side and the character play). In 2004, he asked Caroline Trefois and Houyam Hajlaoui to join him in an association called "Etincelle !" ("sparkle !") in order to put forward the role of body art in the society. As today, body art has developped in an unprecedented diversity. It has been one of the first forms of art, and still has a lot of developments to live. Houyam Hajlaoui is a make-up artist for more than 15 years, she started with child make-up. After many colourful experiences in role-playing games, she discovers how fun special effects can be. She practices the art of body metamorphosis as a cure for her addiction to creativity.

Conceived and Co-Directing the first LOOP CD (later re-released as LOOP Selecta One by LOOP Recordings) for the September issue of the late Wellington culture LOOP Magazine. Erin Harrison: Supreme Award Winner of the New Zealand Body Art Awards in 2010
Erin Harrison is a born and bread kiwi girl and lives in Auckland. She has a bachelor of three dimensional design from Unitec and a diploma of production design from the Cut Above Academy. During her first year at University she took a face painting job in the holidays... and started her own business, Creative Mischief, 6 months later. She has been painting at events, birthday parties and festivals ever since. She has had a bit of experience with props and sets through her studies and also worked on a couple of children's productions.
"The illusion of body art really intrigues me especially seeing the model bring the work to life. I love working with a moving, talking canvas! Studying at Cut Above last year with some amazing special effects tutors gave me an insight into how you can push the boundaries to create illusion! I entered a giant box turtle in the special effects category of the 2010 Body Art Awards and was absolutely stoked to take out the category and the Supreme award. My model Chelsea McEwan-Millar did an amazing job of giving 'Turts' a real character and his own cheeky attitude."

Julian Bartram: Winner of Audience Choice at NZBAA 2010
Julian is inspired by transformational art. “Creating an illusion or making the art piece transform into the unexpected or expected is what I like to do the most. I guess having a wife that is world class in this form helps me think along the same lines; I am just a little.. ok a lot less refined.” “I am lucky enough to travel with Yolanda assisting and collaborating in some major competitions internationally where we have been pretty successful. Working with Yolanda and other amazing artists like Alex Hansen, Lawren Alice and others really helps me progress my art form.” Julians last piece "Svargaloka" won the audience special award at last year’s NZ Body Art Awards 2010. He glued over 2000 feathers to create a wonderful peacock that stole the hearts of the audience with humour and special effects. Julian will be entering the same category this year and is already working on his project. Check out Julians work at www.bodyfx.co.nz

Kelly Zhong-Ni Ren: An extraordinary artist and Supreme Winner 2009
After winning the category "Best emerging artist" at the NZ BodyArtAwards 2008, Kelly Zhong-Ni Ren showed in 2009 again that she really deserved that prize - by winning two categories at once during the this year's NZ BodyArt Awards: Kelly got the first place in the SPFX Fantasy category and won the Supreme Award! Congratulations! Kelly is orginally from China, where she graduated from Hong Kong Monita Hair & Beauty College in 2001, specializing in beauty and personal fashion design. After that, she acted as a senior lecturer for styling classes and was head of this department at Monita College before migrating to NZ in 2006, where she established her REN'S EFFECTS Styling Company by the end of 2008. Her professionalism and creativity is extraordinary and therefore she got various certificates and other awards as well, for example she won the NZ Pasifika Body Painting category in 2008.
Carmel McCormick 2008 Supreme Winner
The North Shore City supreme award went to Carmel McCormick, whose dual entry of a lizard man and a jungle boy impressed the adjudicators. McCormick - who also won the North Shore City supreme award last year - said she was delighted to win the top prize in the Hand Painted Body Art category for the third year running and felt "unbelievably lucky". In accepting the supreme award she thanked her models, who she said were her "number one priority" and said she was not certain when she began painting on Saturday morning how the designs would turn out. "I couldn't believe how it all came together in the end," she said. The model for McCormick's lizard, Levi, was awarded the prize for best performance by a model. He spent much of the show on all fours, standing only to accept his award at the end of the night.
